Harvesting ingenuity through education
Interview with Larry Panattoni, president, Servation

Panatonni

Much has been made about the travails of Northwest manufacturers. What can be done to encourage a turnaround?

"For starters, and I keep hearing this and believe it's true . . . we need to have an education system here that attracts the kind of people that stay and start businesses. There needs to be this bubbling, energetic source of creativity here fostered by education."

Is there a good pool of job applicants when you have openings?

"Yes. We have just stacks and stacks of names on file. Right now, with all the downturn in manufacturing, there's a lot of people available today."

What is the outlook for manufacturing in 2003?

"That's difficult, but I think that many feel things could pick up in the third and fourth quarters. We'll have to see."
